Crystal, John & Jocelyn, a great story of courage and determination!

What an amazing story of HOPE, DETERMINATION & COURAGE!

Thank you Julie for such an amazing experience and for letting us share our little miracle's story with you.

Jocelyn was born March 9, 2015 but was not due till May 10th. This makes her premature by 9 weeks! Scary and crazy yes, but here she is-extremely happy and healthy and growing faster than we can keep up with. Her life story begins on August 16th, 2014. The night of our wedding. 3 weeks later while planning the last minute details on our honeymoon I started feeling chills with nausea. After talking to my husband and confirming a slight fever, we decided to call the doctor and make an appointment. The next day I had a sneaky feeling and instead of just making the call I sent him to the pharmacy instead...he came back with 3 tests. All three were positive. 3 days later we got the confirmation from the doctor. An ultrasound confirmed we were expecting!!!

This was the start to a roller coaster of a pregnancy.
Our care started at the family doctor but after several visits to the PRHC ER, we were sent to Mount Sinai in TO where they performed a cerclage at 14 weeks.

Our care was then transferred back to Peterborough where we visited Dr. Maskens every 2 weeks.
Every week between (every Saturday to be exact) seemed to be more visits to the ER.

Week 28 it happened...my water broke. Peterborough had me flown to Kingston General where they were able to stop the contractions but they insisted that I stay in their care till I reached 34 weeks where they would induce me.

Week 31...contractions and labor begins, sigh. Jocelyn was at risk of poorly developed lungs at this stage! 18 hours later...1 push = one screaming head FULL of dark hair. 2 pushes = one 3lb 15oz little Jocelyn.

Jocelyn was here! Small but with no health issues, none at all smile emoticon All we had to do was play the waiting game, waiting for her to eat, grow, gain weight and come home. 1 1/2 weeks in Kingston General and 2 weeks in PRHC. Now home safe at 5lbs 14 ozwith Mamma, Daddy and her 4 kitties. We are now a complete family!

Why is she a miracle? Not only was she so early but she is also my 8th pregnancy. The only one that carried to deliver a baby to my arms! Jocelyn is my miracle that I have waited 20 years to receive. She is my story of HOPE, never ever give up. No matter what it takes...stay strong and fight for your dreams. I beat a cervical cancer scare at 17 years old and the biopsy led to my having an incompetent cervix but the damage was severe. Severe but it did not win. My dream finally came true at 37 years old!

Sincerely,

Crystal McDowell
